A lot of professional sportspeople are like that, it's part of what drives them on. my father in law played many years of vets football and came up against a lot of ex-pros and overall they were always spiteful, it would all be great if they were clearly the best player on the pitch living off past glories but if anyone showed them up in even the slightest way they would turn and get real nasty.
