So they wouldn't give us our full allocation, yet are putting tickets in the Home End on General Sale? :O How on Earth can they not sell the stadium out for this game, a London derby (not televised) with cheap tickets?

I suspect they'll be busy in the ground...

Because they don't have that many fans. Upton Park or the Bowling Alley or whatever the f*ck it was called was old and needed updating, but it wasn't too small for them. And I don't mean that in a bad way, we've had disscussions on here before, in all reality we probably don't need a 55,000 seater stadium either, not at the moment anyway. West ham are what they are, but they didn't need more than 40,000 seats tops.

I agree that week in/week out, expecting West Ham to fill that stadium is a big ask, particularly given the cost of PL tickets. But for a big Cup derby under the floodlights, with reduced pricing, and not going to be widely available on telly (League Cup games are less reliable in terms of getting dodgy streams), surely it isn't asking that much to be able to sell out? I mean, they've got 992,000 followers on Twitter after all :-D Or at least give us more tickets!

Well, the proof of the pudding, they are obviously struggling to sell them.I remember reading many years ago about how crowds in London fluctuated at different grounds. those dark second division days where we used to be there with West ham, our average crowds were a similar number, yet the difference between their biggest and smallest crowds of the season was only a few thousand whereas we would have a low point of barely 10,000 yet get 42,000 for big games (usually the cup in those days) suggesting the West Ham hardcore were mostly their regular matchgoers and not much above that whereas as our crowd was much more variable. As I say, i am not having a go, but I think it is clear they are not a hugely supported team, few people outside their catchment area support them.

I meet far more random people that are West Ham rather than Chelsea! My old work place had stacks of them but not so Chelsea. Even my local barber always says..."it's strange but the most supported club we get in here are West Ham, easily". My bloody neighbour is West Ham!

I think we need to check our local woodwork more often because that is where they hide for the most part.

As I live in Essex i meet a lot of West Ham, but you would be surprised at just how many Chelsea there are round my neck of the woods.

[^] I know personal experience doesn't always count for much but I encounter loads of West Ham fans. They'd have plenty of demand for tickets if they reached the Final, for example. I also honestly believe Millwall would sell out that many tickets at £20/£25 a pop if they had us in a Cup game and capacity allowed for it, and they have far fewer supporters.
I suppose we could give them the benefit of the doubt and appreciate they may want to avoid the Olympic Stadium at the moment...

At the end of the day if people don't go they don't go. I won't be there as I won't be at most games this season so I'm not going to have a go at anyone else.

I'm not having a go, I've never been one of those who knocks fans or clubs for attendances etc. I just find it strange that their first big derby game there with such relatively low prices has gone to general sale, especially after taking away hundreds of tickets for our fans which would have been snapped up.

I didn't mean I imply you were having a go. Just commenting that I am in no position to do it.

I know, just didn't want to come across like one of 'those' people [sad]

I also think the recent crowd trouble there and the visit of over 5000 Chelsea fans will have a major impact on the parent/child support. There's only so many hooligans at West Ham and that won't fill a stadium that big.
