a little 'the horse has bolted' today.

People talking about how terrorism can be beaten and how we will not surrender to it. It all seems very pointless to me even though I know we have to have words of defiance.

It can't be stopped, we are all at risk when in public places. How do you stop someone packing up and walking into crowded areas??? You simply can't - not all the time! People filled with hatred for us walk our streets preaching to followers and would be followers damning our way of life and beliefs. This isn't political (like the IRA troubles) this is far worse than that and it's not going to get better or go away with an agreement. Going about our way of life isn't beating them at all...it's a risk we have to take and that in turn makes us all sitting ducks. It's quite simple to me, we can't solve the problem with words and we won't solve the problem with action...getting tough isn't an option because the softies stamp their feet and scream.

Intelligence will save us more times than not but some of our guardian angels will lose out to this lot. We can all grieve and show outrage but the upshot is thousands of British people celebrate acts like Manchester.

May fate and luck protect us all...that's our only true defence.

What can we do? As citizens we are helpless to fight or defend against it.

Sit back and wait for the next one. Read the same condemning. Sit back and wait for the next one. Etc etc etc

That's about it.
The issue with this one is that the Cnut would have known the place was full of children.

My oldest is the same age and it beaks my heart seeing her picture and thinking what her last moments must have been like.

I can only see this as a legacy we have brought on ourselves by steaming into places such as Iraq without a clue on what would happen when we left but in actual fact it probably goes back further to when we divided up the Middle East in the 1920's etc when we made Lawrence of Arabia the "romantic" figure that he is and we were changing peoples lives and history for good even then in the name of Imperialism.

I'm sure that has plenty to do with what we see today. Needs a deeper thinker and greater mind than mine though mate. I look directly at the danger ahead of me rather than where it came from. Need to take the gun from the armed man before I find out why he carries it.

We didn't bring this on ourselves in the sense you are talking about. Our history in the Middle East might be a good recruiting tool but this is based on an ideology that nobody dare criticise or try and reform because they are too scared of being labelled a racist or a fascist! Remember a number of these terrorists are born in their European countries and never step foot in the Middle East. We could stop mass immigration from certain parts of the world, stop the radicalisation that's happening in certain faith schools and prisons for a start but then you'd have to admit that the problem was indeed linked to a religion and heaven forbid anyone did that!

Yep.

Start burying these terrorists, or what's left of them, in pig skins like we did back in India. Something that disrespects them.

Apologist cobblers.

If that were the case, Sweden wouldn't have a massive problem with murder and gang rape. Yet they do.

You can't fix a problem until you accept there is one.
